Bill Buckler

Being one who enjoys making saw dust, wood carving and collecting wood working tools, I thought it appropriate to build and carve a carpenters tool chest. Since all the tools in the chest are used for working with wood in one form or the other, I thought it natural to use only wood. The hinge, latches and drawer pulls are brass and were used for their strength and aesthetics. Wood selection was a factor as I carved the tools. Hard maple was used primarily where there Would be chrome or bare metal parts and for pieces needed for strength. Not wanting to use paint I used various woods for their color and grain patterns. One example was using Ebony for the pencil lead. The various wood types used were Hard, Birds Eye and Curly Maple, Mahogany, Walnut, Cherry, Ebony, Bass Wood, Parana Wood and Poplar. Although it took the better part of a year to make the 150 plus pieces, I looked at each piece as a separate carving. It is my hope that you enjoy the piece as much as I enjoyed making it.
